Interactive Open Days

On Monday and Tuesday of this week Avondale Community College opened its doors for the third successive year to senior classes from our neighbouring primary schools. This year’s visiting students enjoyed participating in interactive activities in Science, Maths, PE and Music. They also visited practical classes such as Art, Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Graphics and Home Economics. A scientist from neighbouring Pharmaceutical Company, Schering Plough created a number of interesting experiments alongside teachers and students in the Science Department. We were delighted to welcome these students and to give them the opportunity to see what second level may hold in store for them. We also thank all Primary Teachers for taking time out of their busy schedules to accompany students.

Irish Trip

On Friday Ms. Lambert and Ms. Darcy travelled to Dublin with a group of Fifth and Sixth year students to see a production of
An Triail. The trip was both enjoyable and educational and a great day was had by all.

French Week

This week sees French Week at Avondale Community College. French classes will be involved in various activities to promote French Language and Culture. Some classes have been busy making posters to promote the event in the school. Transition Year students have prepared cultural projects. They will present these projects to First and Second year French students during the week, aiming to raise awareness of French Culture among our newer French speakers. The focus of French week for Fifth Year students will be on the French media. They are busy researching French magazines and newspapers, as part of their Language and Culture Project.
