SCHOOL NOTES
Week ending 05/02/2010

CROSS COUNTRY SUCCESS
Congratulations to Amy Murphy, Katie Conroy and Mark Driver who are now through to the Cross Country Leinster Finals following their success in Friday's East Leinster Competition.

JUNIOR BOYS BASKETBALL
Our Junior Boys Basketball Team will play Arklow Community College in the first round of the Basketball League this week. Best wishes to all.

TRANS NEWS
To date 2010 has been a busy year for our Transition Year Students who are presently involved in the second stage of their work experience. The students have recently completed their Refereeing Exams which were organised by Leighton Glynn and have also enjoyed swimming lessons in Arklow. Many thanks to Leighton Glynn and Wicklow GAA for their help with the refereeing course and to all the employers who have taken on our students for work experience.

LOG ON AND LEARN
The Log on and Learn Initiative is a community based project that involves Transition Year Students joining up with older members of their community in order to teach them computer and internet skills. The Project which is known as TY LOL will be up and running in our school in March. Any older members of our community who wish to take part in this initiative can contact the school. Please call 0404-46445 for details.

POST LEAVING CERTIFICATE COURSES

Our Sixth Year students who are interested in pursuing a Post Leaving Certificate Course enjoyed an informative talk by Michael Condron from Dun Laoghaire College of Further Education. Our thanks must also be extended to Theresa, Dorothy and Celine from Arklow Senior College who provided information on their courses in Beauty, Childcare and Business.

WORLD BOOK DAY

World Book Day will be celebrated on 4 March. Plans for our World Book Day Publication are underway. Students have been busy submitting creative pieces of writing for this enterprise. A reading week, along with other initiatives have also been planned to mark this event.

CADBURYS SPORTS BURSARY

Two past pupils of Avondale Community College were granted Cadbury's Bursaries for their commitment to sport.
The students Stephen Mann and Christopher Murphy who are now studying in the University of Limerick received the prestigious sports awards as a result of their commitment to the U21 Co. Wicklow Football Team and for their management of the college's Fresher Team.
We wish these students every success in their studies and in their sporting careers.
