UCD NEW ERA PROGRAMME
On Tuesday 2 March, five students from our school enjoyed a tour of the UCD Campus as part of New Era Programme. Our students Ross Doonan, Dwayne Byrne, Sheila Holt, Grainne Doyle and Sean Kinsella were paired with First Year students from the university. They spent their day at lectures and exploring the campus. Many thanks to all those who organised this special event.
BT Business of Science and Technology Programme.
As you know Avondale Community College took second prize in the Social and Behavioural Sciences Senior Category section of the BT Young Scientist Competition. In addition to their group prize three of our students were invited to join a group 40 students chosen from over one thousand to participate in the BT Business of Science and Technology Programme which took place at the Science Gallery in Trinity College this week. As part of this programme our students, Maedhbh Quinn, Benjamin Levai and Conor McGraynor began 4 days of training in entrepreneurship at the College, enabling them to develop practical business knowledge and to expand their project further. Many thanks to all those involved in organising this event.

On Friday the Transition Year students enjoyed a DJ Workshop in which they acquired essential DJ skills and learned how to mix their own music.
TY and the Community
A Buddy System with Young Adults from our local Centre for Autism is up and running in the school. Those partaking in this programme are paired with a Transition Year student and participate in a number of sports and recreational activities.
A number of Transition Year students are involved in a Childcare Programme in which they offer their babysitting services to enable parents in the community to partake in a Cookery Course. The programme is running well and our students are enjoying the experience.
World Book Day
From dressing up as your favourite book character to reading challenges this year's World Book Day was a great success. Well done to all the students who dressed up for World Book Day. Congratulations to Laura Cullen aka Nancy Drew and Dean Dickenson (the Nutty Professor) who won prizes for their costumes. Many thanks to all those involved in the World Book Day Celebrations.
