Highest Engineering Result Award
Avondale Community College is proud to announce that our past student Karen Fitzgerald has received the Liam Byrne, Gold Medal Award for Best Leaving Certificate Higher Level Engineering Female. We extend our congratulations to Karen and to Mr.Mulvey her teacher. The award was presented to Karen at the Limerick Institute of Technology by David Monaghan, Chairperson of the Engineering Technology Teachers Association.

Concern Debating
Our school's debating team made up of Amy Kenny, Benji Levai, Conor McGraynor and Laura Cullen won the second round of the Concern Debates. Many thanks to the St.Mary's College Debaters who were an excellent team to debate against. Special thanks to Mr.Akinson who was our chairperson on the night and to Ian Baker for his excellent time-keeping skills.

Young Scientist 2010
A project on plyometrics and weight training submitted by a team of fifth year students has been accepted for this year's Young Scientist Final. The successful entries made up of Benjamin Levai, Conor McGraynor, Meadhbh Quinn and Ciara Duffy are looking forward to competing in the final in the RDS this coming January. Best wishes to all involved


Irish EU Science Olympiad
Our School is also delighted to announce that two students from our school Benji Levai and Conor Byrne will be taking part in the Irish EU Science Olympiad. IrEUSO is an individual, subject based competition for students who are sixteen years of age or younger. It will be held in Dublin City University (DCU) in November. Finalists qualify through their Junior Certificate Results. Best wishes to our entrants in this competition.

Rotary Club Interviews
Well done to Patricia Byrne, Conor Byrne, Conor McGraynor and Michael Steadman who took part in the Wicklow Rotary Club Interviews. Congratulations to Conor McGraynor for coming second in the Wicklow stage of the competition.

Sixth Year Parent and Student Information Evening

Sixth Year parents and students attended an Information Evening on Wednesday. Speakers from UCD and Maynooth explained the CAO, Maintenance Grants and Higher Education Access Routes. Ms. Lillis also spoke about a variety of issues including Post Leaving Certificate Courses and provided students with a hand on important dates.

A Doll's House
A group of sixth year students travelled to the Helix on Tuesday evening for a Second Age Theatre performance of A Doll's House, which was enjoyed by all.



Basketball
Congratulations to our basketball teams for their excellent results this week. The U16 and U19 Boys Basketball Teams beat Arklow Community College on Wednesday, November 11th. The U19 and U16 Girls Teams also had great wins over St. Marys on Friday, November 13th

Third Year Parent Teacher Meeting
The Third Year Parent Teacher meeting will be take place on Thursday, November 26 from 1.30 to 3.30 pm. We look forward to meeting all parents and guardians on this day.
