Avondale Community College
November 25th 2009
Interactive Open Days
Avondale Community College will open its doors for the third successive year to senior classes in our neighbouring primary schools next Monday 30 November and Tuesday 1 December. Visiting students will have the opportunity to participate in interactive activities in Science, Maths, PE and Music. They will visit practical classes such as Art, Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Graphics and Home Economics. A scientist from neighbouring Pharmaceutical Company, Schering Plough will work alongside teachers and students in the Science Department. We are delighted to give students the opportunity to see what second level may hold in store for them.
Wicklow Uplands Competition
Congratulations to Laura Cullen, Sean Keogh, Amy Kenny and Nicola O'Brien who took part in the Young Observers Project 2009. As part of their project our students considered the negative effects of camping on our local environment. In response to this they created an Essential Guide to Camping in Co. Wicklow in order to raise awareness and to promote proper camping practices. The students presented their projects to the Wicklow Uplands Committee in the Glendalough Hotel on Monday 16 November. Each participant received a certificate from local T.D Andrew Doyle. A number of our students helped out for this event and we would like to thank them for their contribution.
County Wicklow Vocational Football
Nine students from Avondale Community College have been chosen to play on the County Wicklow Vocational Team. This is for a trial period until the final panel is decided in December. ACC players include Stephen O'Neill, Steve Olohan, Conor McGraynor, Padraig O'Toole, Padraig Geoghan, James Byrne, Barry Vickers, Dylan Doran and Denis Heffernan. Best wishes to all players.
Basketball
The U16 and U19 Boys Basketball Team will play St. Peter's Wexford in the final round of the league. The match will be held in our school on Wednesday 2 December.
