OPENING CEREMONY

All students and teachers took time out of the classroom on Friday toattend the opening ceremony for the academic school year. The ceremony was organised by the Religion and Music Department and was enjoyed by all. Students were given the opportunity to reflect on their hopes andaspirations for the year to come.

TY NEWS
Welcome back to all our transition year students who, under the supervision of Ms.Hannifin and Mr. Breen, have recently returned fromtheir fun-filled adventures in Killary.
Our transition students are also very busy working on the school courtyard which is currently undergoing a major transformation at their hands. The project is being run under guidance from Ms. Gahan. A lot of work is already underway and we wait in anticipation for the final result.


GREEN SCHOOLS

All students involved in the Green School Committee are busy working on a number of recycling initiatives including a ’Shredding Campaign’ in which all waste paper in the school is shredded for use elsewhere. We ask parents and guardians to submit any old newspapers to schoolfor this project.


CAREERS
Our sixth year students recently attended the Higher OptionsExhibition in the RDS. In the coming weeks these students will havefurther talks in school from Carlow IT, Dun Laoghaire College ofFurther Education and the Irish Association of Accounting Technicians.


PARENTING COURSE
Avondale Community College in association with County WicklowP artnership will host a six week parenting course in the school on Tuesday mornings from 10-11.30 am. This course will begin on Tuesday November 2nd. The following topics will be covered; handling difficult behaviour, stress management, assertive parenting; active listening, social networking and drug and alcohol awareness. The Course is free of charge.
