Fifth Year Students take First Prize in Sci-Fest Competition
Congratulations to Conor Byrne and James Conway, two fifth year students from our school who took first place in the Technology section of the recent Sci-Fest Competition. Sci-Fest is a Science competition which aims to encourage a love of science by providing students with an opportunity to display their scientific discoveries. Our students’ project entitled ‘Rainwater as a Renewable Source of Energy’ greatly impressed the judges at this year’s competition which was held in the Institute of Technology, Carlow. The students along with their Physics teacher Mr. Breen are looking forward to developing this project further.pr
Success for Quiz Team
Following a successful win against Ard Scoil na mBraithre, Clonmel the school’s Quiz Team made up of Bryan Kenna, Conor Byrne, Scott Kenna and Peter O’Neill are now through to the All-Ireland Quarter Finals. Congratulations to the team and we wish them every success in their upcoming competitions.
Student Awards Ceremony
A number of awards ceremonies, to mark the achievements of our students, have been planned for the coming weeks. Some of these events will be held in the evening in order for parents to attend. The Extra Curricular Awards Ceremony will be held in the school on Wednesday 19 May at 7:30 pm. Transition Year Awards Night will take place on Monday 24 May at 7:00 pm. The Senior and Junior Academic Awards will also begin at 2:00 pm on 25 and 26 May. The final ceremony, the Leaving Certificate Graduation will be held in the school on Thursday 27 May at 7:30 pm. We look forward to seeing parents and students at these events.
End of Year Trip for Transition Years
A trip to Quasar and Bowling to mark the end of activities for this year’s Transition Year students has been organised for 28 May.
Following a busy of year packed with activities ranging from Yoga, Kickboxing, Swimming, Aromatherapy, Refeering Course and various educational trips to museums and historical sites our Transition Year students are looking forward to their final excursion of the year!
TY Texting Class for Senior Citizens
To mark the end of this year’s TY Log On, Learn we are inviting other Senior members of our community to join us and take part in a Texting Afternoon. The texting session will take place in the school from 2-3 pm this Wednesday, 12 May. Transition Year students will share their knowledge of mobile phone text messaging with anyone who wishes to attend.
Team Samba Drum Workshop
An instructor from Team Samba ran a music workshop with Transition Year students last Friday. The experience was enjoyed by all of the students, many of whom discovered their inner rhythm! Following their lesson those in attendance performed a short concert demonstrating their newly acquired skills to some students and teachers.
Sports News
Athletics
Congratulations to Amy Murphy, Katie and Aoife Conroy who following their recent success in athletics are now through to the Leinster Finals. All of the girls received medals in the East Leinster Track and Field competitions on Wednesday. The Leinster Finals will be held in Santry on 19 May. We wish them the best of luck in their upcoming competition.
Basketball
The First and Second Year Girls Basketball Teams will play St. Mary’s, Arklow in the final round of the league. Best wishes to all.
Baltinglass Outdoor Education Centre
A trip to Baltinglass Outdood Education Centre, organised by the PE Department for our First Year Students, will take place on Friday 21 May. This has become an annual event in the school which is enjoyed by all those who attend!
Golf Classic
The school’s annual Golf Classic will be held in Arklow Golf Club on Friday 14 May. All money raised at this event will be donated to the school’s Extra-Curricular Fund. Anyone who is interested in entering a team or sponsoring a tee-box can contact the school on Tel: 0404-46445
